There could be a reunion in store before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.

"I would say a name I've been wondering about is Jauan Jennings," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said during a Tuesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show . "… I expect his name to heat up a little bit over the next, probably couple days and weeks. And, obviously, the 49ers lost Deebo [Samuel] for a couple weeks too, so they make sense. That would be a name for me to keep an eye on."

Jennings has largely been a nonfactor for the Minnesota Vikings this season and enjoyed far more success during the last five seasons for the 49ers.

Wide receiver is also something of a concern for San Francisco, as Rapoport reported Samuel suffered a "bad" hamstring pull and could be reevaluated following the team's Week 8 bye.

Minnesota signed Jennings this offseason, but he has just two catches for nine yards and zero touchdowns through the first five games.

His lack of production also hasn't stopped the Vikings from winning, as they are 5-0 to start the campaign. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson are the main weapons in the aerial attack, and the NFC North team also brought in Odell Beckham Jr. for veteran depth.

Perhaps a return to San Francisco could help Jennings rediscover his form.

After all, he posted a career-high nine touchdown catches just last year for the 49ers after finishing the 2024 campaign with career-high marks in receptions (77), targets (113) and receiving yards (975).

There is already chemistry in place with quarterback Brock Purdy, and it surely wouldn't take him long to get adjusted following a trade.

Here is a look at the financial situation as well:

With Samuel sidelined, Mike Evans is the only wide receiver on the 49ers with more than 84 receiving yards on the season. While tight end George Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey are factors in the passing game, the NFC West team still needs more reliable options out wide for the immediate future.

Jennings would be a relatively low-cost addition with plenty of advantages from his experience with the team.
