Marvin Harrison Jr. Backed by Cardinals HC amid Questions About WR's Effort Level

Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur pushed back at the idea that Marvin Harrison Jr. isn't playing with full effort this season.

"I think his running style is different than some other people's," he told reporters Tuesday. "If that's people's narrative on him, that's fine, but I know his teammates don't feel that way."

Despite his coach's comments, Harrison's lack of production at this point of his career is rather surprising.

He is the son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison and was a two-time All-American and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year during his collegiate career at Ohio State. He seemed like a surefire lock to be a productive playmaker when the Cardinals selected him with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft.

He has not lived up to those lofty expectations.

Harrison got off to a solid start with 62 catches for 885 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie but saw his numbers drop to 41 catches for 608 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games during the 2025 campaign.

It's safe to say he hasn't bounced back to start his third season either.

He finished with one catch for 33 yards in Arizona's season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers and didn't tally a single reception on just one target in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

While Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett isn't exactly Patrick Mahomes under center, it was reasonable to expect Harrison to be much more productive at this point of his career.

To hear his coach tell it, though, it is not because of a lack of effort.
