Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was successful in his appeal of $29,852 in fines he received from the NFL.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , the appeals officer found that the league was "assuming the worst of [Chase] and his teammate without discussing with the NFLPA" when it levied the punishment.

Chase asserted he was mimicking WWE legend The Rock and his "People's Elbow" finisher during a 20-6 win over the Houston Texans in Week 2:

Following his acrobatic touchdown grab in the second quarter, Chase placed his left hand under his right elbow and extended his right arm. Tee Higgins later did the same thing to celebrate one of his catches:

The league fined both wideouts for what it deemed an "offensive" gesture, which was used multiple times during the first two weeks. The Athletic's Jonathan Jones wrote it could "be interpreted as resembling a phallus."

Higgins offered his side to Kay Adams. He said he's a fan of WWE and The Rock. He and Chase were putting a different spin on one of the wrestler's signature moves:

This is just the most recent case of the NFL coming down hard on a player's celebration and having to walk back a fine on appeal.

Higgins told Adams he and Chase were putting the "People's Elbow" on ice and were "back in the lab" to think up a new celebratory taunt. After Chase's appeal was successful, maybe they can bring their ode to The Rock back.
