NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth showering Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes with over-the-top praise is nothing new. At this point, it has practically become a tradition during NFL broadcasts. Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks was no different.
The Chiefs struggled to get anything going offensively and fell 20-3 to the reigning Super Bowl champions, but Collinsworth still found a moment to gush over Mahomes. It didn't take long for fans to notice, and the clip quickly made the rounds on social media.
Cris Collinsworth Takes Heat for His Boundless Praise of Patrick Mahomes
The moment came in the third quarter, when Mahomes scrambled, took a hit, and fumbled the ball. The Chiefs quarterback then dove back into the pile and managed to recover it himself.
Watching the replay, Collinsworth couldn't help himself, saying, "What other quarterback is getting up twice to go get this football?"
Collinsworth wasn't done defending Mahomes, either. As the Chiefs' offensive struggles continued, the NBC analyst turned his attention to the quarterback's body language.
"That's the second time I've seen that look on Patrick Mahomes' face. When he went back and recovered that fumble earlier, I saw that same sort of 'I can't believe this is happening to me' look. There it is again. Have you ever seen that look on Patrick Mahomes?" he asked.
Reacting to these moments, one fan tweeted , "Cris Collinsworth is so unbelievably cringeworthy when it comes to talking about Patrick Mahomes."
PREDICT THE NFL SEASON: PFN's Free NFL Playoff Predictor
Associated Press reporter Rob Maaddi took issue with Collinsworth's original point, arguing that recovering a fumble shouldn't be treated as something extraordinary for a quarterback. "The question should be: Which QB doesn't get up to go after a loose ball because that's what would actually be rare," he wrote .
"Cris Collinsworth glazing Mahomes even after fumbling is crazy," a third fan wrote on X.
"Cris Collinsworth waxing poetic for Patrick Mahomes recovering his own fumble," another fan commented .
One user struggled to wrap his head around the question, saying , "Patrick Mahomes got rocked and fumbled, and Cris Collinsworth somehow turns it into praising Mahomes."
After the loss, the Chiefs are 5-1 on the season and currently rank No. 6 in the league with a PFN Team Impact Score of 80.7.
Kansas City's Week 7 loss came down to several factors. The offense managed just 213 total yards, its lowest output in a regular-season game started by Mahomes.
The Chiefs also failed to convert their first five third-down attempts and finished just 3-of-11 on third down. Mahomes' struggles as a runner and his accuracy issues added to the offensive problems.
Kansas City will look to bounce back against the Denver Broncos in Week 8. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 1.
