A.J. Brown Injured, Latest Updates on Patriots WR's Status After Exiting vs. Seahawks in Opener

New England Patriots star wide receiver A.J. Brown was ruled out for the remainder of the team's season-opening 13-10 loss against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury.

Brown suffered the injury while battling with Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett to catch a pass that ultimately fell incomplete in the third quarter of the contest.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters after the game he did not have an update on Brown's status. According to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, Brown was seen leaving the locker room after the game with a boot on his right foot.

According to the broadcast Brown underwent X-rays after exiting the game.

Brown caught three of his four targets for 26 yards prior to his exit.

He was making his Patriots debut on Wednesday, as they previously acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on June 1. New England sent a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Brown.

The three-time Pro Bowler hasn't missed significant time due to injuries as of late, appearing in 62 of a possible 68 regular-season games over the past four years.

He was sidelined for four contests during the 2024 season while dealing with hamstring issues , though.

Expectations were high for Brown heading into his 2026 campaign, as he racked up 5,034 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns during his four-year tenure on the Eagles.

Both New England and Seattle experienced health issues on Wednesday, as Seahawks starting quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a hip injury on their opening drive of the game before he was later ruled out.

While Brown's outlook following his injury is uncertain, the Patriots will hope that he can return in time for a Week 2 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 20.
