The NFL announced Friday that it is removing Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs from the Commissioner Exempt List, making him eligible to play in the team's Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions on Oct. 25.
Jacobs' attorneys released the following statement on his behalf:
On Sunday, Jacobs will miss his sixth game of the season since being placed on the commissioner exempt list on Aug. 30.
The league made the decision to place Jacobs on the commissioner exempt list days after he was charged with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage stemming from a May dispute with his then-girlfriend.
Jacobs pleaded no contest to the charges last month, and he was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
As part of an agreement with prosecutors, the criminal damage charge can be dismissed in a year if Jacobs "fulfills terms that include staying out of trouble, avoiding the victim in this case, submitting to supervision, completing counseling and paying restitution to the victim."
Jacobs was arrested on May 26 after his then-girlfriend told police that he had thrown her to the ground and taken her phone.
Police noticed redness on her face and neck, and a bump on her head. They also viewed surveillance video that corroborated the woman's story.
The 28-year-old Jacobs is a seven-year NFL veteran who has played for the Las Vegas Raiders and Packers.
Originally selected 24th overall by the Raiders in the 2019 NFL draft, Jacobs is a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro who has rushed for 7,803 yards and 74 touchdowns, while catching 269 passes for 2,072 yards and two scores over 105 career regular-season games.
Last season, Jacobs finished with 929 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, plus 36 receptions for 282 yards and one touchdown in 15 games.
The 3-2 Packers have struggled mightily to run the ball so far this season without Jacobs, ranking last in the NFL in rushing yards per game (60.4), and 31st in yards per carry (3.1).
