The Las Vegas Raiders had a deal in place to trade Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens for a pair of first-round picks in the offseason before the Ravens pulled out of the deal , citing medical concerns.
And the odds of Crosby being traded during the season now seem pretty low.
"The issue is, he means so much to that franchise. He was the one who was forcing the issue in the offseason. He was the one who wanted to be traded," ESPN's Adam Schefter said during a Monday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show . "Initially the Raiders balked, and then they found two ones. And I just don't think they're getting that back now. He's an unbelievable player, but I don't think they're getting two ones. And so maybe it just makes sense to hold onto him. Particularly, again, they're 3-4. If they could find a way to win the New York Jets' game on Sunday, they're 4-4. You don't want to sell off the heart and soul of your team, the face of your franchise, you don't want to do that. And I don't know that anybody would give up enough to make it happen. So I don't rule out anything, but the trade talks surrounding Crosby, to me, have lost a little steam."
Crosby, 29, has registered 18 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery through seven games. It hasn't exactly been the pace of a player whose reached double-digit sacks four times in his career, though he remains highly impactful off the edge nonetheless.
Any number of teams would love to add a player of Crosby's caliber. Whether they're willing to pay what the Raiders will ask is another matter entirely.
