Caleb Williams' Unapproved Cleats Fine to Be Paid by Caddix, Bears QB Has No Contract With Company

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was fined for his cleat choice, but he reportedly doesn't have to worry about footing the bill.
Front Office Sports reported Monday the NFL fined Williams $11,941 because he wore Caddix cleats and did not cover up the logo. However, the company will cover the fine even though he does not have an endorsement deal.
"He bought our cleats because they're the only ones built with SmartStuds to release under injurious load, reducing the force responsible for non-contact knee and ankle injuries," Caddix founder Jack Rasmussen said.
James Neveau of NBC Chicago noted the fine was not because Williams wore the cleats themselves but due to the fact he didn't cover up the company's logo. NFL rules allow players to display apparel logos only for the companies it has partnerships with, such as Nike, Adidas and Under Armour.
Williams' health has been a major storyline in Chicago this year.
He was carted off the field during the team's second game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings with a hamstring injury and then missed the following three contests against the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Green Bay Packers.
But he has been excellent in his return, leading the Bears to victories over the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots with a combined 613 passing yards, three touchdown throws and zero interceptions.
As long as he remains healthy, the Bears figure to remain a threat in the NFC playoff picture following their 5-2 start. Next up is a high-profile showdown against the reigning-champion Seattle Seahawks.
