Travis Kelce Played 'Pretty Good for an Old Man,' Chiefs' Andy Reid Says After Win vs. Broncos

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is happy Travis Kelce started out his 14th NFL season by helping lead his team to a Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos.

Kelce led the Chiefs in catches as Patrick Mahomes made his return from ACL surgery in a 31-10 win over Bo Nix and the Broncos on Monday night.

"Kelce, he dusted it off, right? Three for 71 yards," Reid said Monday night. "Pretty good for an old man that people look cross-eyed at."

Kelce's biggest play of the night came on a third-quarter field drive, during which he connected on a short pass with Mahomes before running for a 59-yard gain.

That marked Kelce's longest reception since 2021, while his 54-yard run marked his highest YAC on a catch since 2016, per NFL Plus and NFL Next Gen Stats .

When asked after the game if he thought he would be able to score on that play, Kelce told reporters , "Of course I did... just got to find a way to get my ass in the end zone."

Kelce, who will turn 37 in October, re-signed with the Chiefs on a one-year deal ahead of the season.

He joined Kenneth Walker III, who ran for 173 yards and scored two touchdowns, and a Chiefs defense that held the Broncos to 176 total yards in helping Mahomes win his first NFL game since last December's knee injury.
