Sam Darnold's status as the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback is secure despite struggling during the team's 17-14 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said that he isn't considering a change under center during a Friday appearance on Seattle Sports 710 radio.
Darnold finished 27-of-51 for 278 yards and two interceptions against the Broncos.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the "feeling" among "some people in the league" is that keeping Darnold as Seattle's starter is the right move.
Both of his turnovers against the Broncos were particularly costly, with the first occurring with less than 90 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks, at that point, had the ball at Denver's 39-yard line while trailing by three.
Seattle was able to get the ball back and send the contest to overtime with a late field goal, but Darnold was picked off again on the first possession of the extra period.
The Seahawks weren't able to emerge victorious despite an impressive performance from their defense, limiting the Broncos to just 168 total yards as well as an average of 2.9 yards per play.
After suffering a glute injury on the opening drive of Week 1 and missing Week 2 as a result, Darnold has been inconsistent to begin the year.
He's completed 60.4 percent of his throws for 1,033 yards and seven touchdowns while throwing seven interceptions across five appearances.
The Seahawks boast one of the NFL's top backup quarterbacks in Drew Lock, who has filled in admirably for Darnold this year.
Lock threw for 422 yards and four touchdowns without getting picked off while Darnold was sidelined. His 127.3 passer rating is the No. 1 mark in the NFL, albeit in a small sample size.
The defending Super Bowl champions will be back in action next Sunday night against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
