The Washington Commanders placed defensive tackles Javon Kinlaw, Daron Payne on injured reserve alongside running back Jeremy McNichols, the team announced on Tuesday.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Kinlaw underwent season-ending surgery on his MCL.
Kinlaw missed Washington's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night due to a knee injury he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers. Kinlaw tallied 13 tackles and one sack this season.
Payne has spent his entire nine-year career in Washington, but he is expected to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The 29-year-old defensive tackle was named as a potential trade candidate prior to his injury, but any chance of a move came to an end when he suffered a season-ending Jones fracture during practice last Friday.
Kinlaw and Payne have both served as vital parts of the Commanders defensive line over the past two seasons. Washington will now look to alleviate their losses by turning to defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton, who was designated to return from injured reserve last week.
McNichols missed multiple games earlier this season due to a quadriceps injury and was just getting adjusted to Washington's backfield rotation, but he will likely miss the remainder of the season after suffering a foot injury on Sunday. The 31-year-old running back is expected to miss multiple months, according to Tashan Reed of the Washington Post .
The Commanders' season hasn't gone as they hoped, and they're heading into a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams with with a 2-4-1 record.
