Jalen Hurts, Eagles on Wrong Side of NFL History With Rare Stat Loss to Bears

As if a 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears wasn't bad enough, the Philadelphia Eagles also set a unique NFL record on Monday Night Football.

Per OptaSTATS, the Eagles became the first team ever have a game with fewer than 50 offensive plays, fewer than 250 total yards, commit at least three turnovers and 10 penalties with no takeaways or sacks.

That very granular-type of record does speak to some of the bigger issues that have already popped up on both sides of the ball for the Eagles this season. The defense, which was thought to be the strength of this roster, has yet to record a takeaway through three games.

The change in offensive coordinator from Kevin Patullo to Sean Mannion doesn't appear to have made much of a difference. Jalen Hurts' EPA per play of minus-0.04 ranks 27th out of 49 total quarterbacks through three weeks. His success rate of 41.4 percent ranks 30th, sandwiched between Carson Wentz and Bo Nix.

Saquon Barkley is averaging 5.1 yards per carry, but his down-to-down efficiency is a problem with a 38.2 percent success rate.

The Eagles have five turnovers this season, all of which have come in the last two games. Monday night saw them lose a fumble deep in their own territory, but the defense was able to hold after the Bears' fourth-and-goal pass attempt failed.

Andy Dalton, who had to play four snaps midway through the second quarter while Hurts was being evaluated for a concussion, threw a terrible interception in the end zone when he seemed not to see Bears safety Dillon Thieneman.

The Eagles now rank 23rd in points and 24th in yards per game. They were lucky to escape Week 2 with a win over the Tennessee Titans, then came out completely flat against a Bears team that didn't have Caleb Williams.

Now, with a 2-1 record, the Eagles' next two games are home against the Los Angeles Rams on a short week and at the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5.
