New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan didn't mince words about the team's performance in Monday's 45-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Jordan told reporters after the game that "s--t was embarrassing" to describe how the Saints played.

Jordan further explained that Saints players needed to show more urgency because "there is a division rivalry here" and his hope is they will "be there early in the morning" to get back to work on what they need to fix.

The fun early-season effort by the Saints, starting with their near-comeback in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions and capped off by an upset win over the Baltimore Ravens the next week, has given way to real flaws on both sides of the ball.

Jordan and the defense, especially, got picked on against the Falcons. Atlanta ran for 205 yards and five touchdowns, including 145 yards from Bijan Robinson and three scores by Brian Robinson Jr.

The Saints have allowed at least 340 yards and 30 points in three of their first four games. Their offense isn't helping matters with eight giveaways, including an NFL-high five fumbles lost.

Tyler Shough leads the league with five fumbles and is tied for the lead with three fumbles lost.

As a result of the poor defense and turnover woes, the Saints are constantly trying to dig themselves out of holes. They have trailed in every game this season and have fallen behind by at least 11 points three times.

Week 5 could be a good litmus test for how bad things can get for the Saints defense when they host the Minnesota Vikings.

Minnesota has scored fewer points in the last three games combined (38) than it did in Week 1 (39).

One thing working in the Saints' favor is the NFC South once again looks rather pedestrian. The Falcons and Carolina Panthers are tied for the division lead with matching 2-2 records.

A win over the Vikings on Sunday would have the Saints right back in the NFC South mix.
