Lamar Jackson injury update: Will Ravens QB play Week 5 vs. Falcons after ankle sprain
Lamar Jackson's Week 5 status suddenly looks shaky.
Lamar Jackson's Week 5 status suddenly looks shaky. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback has only an "outside chance" to play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons after spraining his left ankle, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.Jackson could also miss multiple games depending on how his rehabilitation progresses. That would put Baltimore's offense in Tyler Huntley's hands as the Ravens try to build on their 3-1 start. Will Lamar Jackson play against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5?Rapoport reported that Jackson is unlikely to play against Atlanta, although the two-time MVP has not been completely ruled out.Jackson injured his ankle late in the first half of Baltimore's 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Titans defensive end Jermaine Johnson II sacked him with 14 seconds remaining before halftime, and Jackson's ankle rolled during the tackle. He did not return after the break.Jackson later left M&T Bank Stadium wearing a walking boot, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Rapoport reported Tuesday that the quarterback is dealing with a sprained ankle and has only an "outside chance" to play in Week 5.The Ravens have not announced a firm return timetable.Head coach Jesse Minter said Monday that Baltimore was still gathering information about Jackson's injury."I don’t know the chances yet," Minter said. "We’re still gathering a lot of the information and the imaging and things like that, just dealing with a little bit of an ankle and we’ll kind of see where that shakes out. [I have] full trust and confidence in him that when it’s ready to roll that we’ll roll and go from there."Minter also indicated that Baltimore does not currently expect Jackson to face an extended absence."I really don’t think it’s going to be crazy long term, but we’ll see what happens," Minter said. That leaves two possibilities in play. Jackson still has a chance to face Atlanta, but Baltimore also has to prepare for an absence that could extend beyond one game. What would Lamar Jackson missing Week 5 mean for the Ravens against Atlanta? If Jackson cannot play, Huntley is expected to start against the Falcons.Huntley took over against Tennessee and completed eight of nine passes for 63 yards. He did not throw a touchdown.Replacing Jackson goes far beyond changing quarterbacks. The 29-year-old had completed a career-high 70.8% of his passes through four games, according to theScore. He had thrown for 967 yards and six touchdowns while helping Baltimore open the season 3-1.Jackson also entered Tuesday leading the NFL with 14.2 yards per completion. He showed that efficiency before leaving Sunday's game. Jackson threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against Tennessee before the ankle injury ended his afternoon.Huntley would therefore inherit an offense built around one of the NFL's most productive quarterbacks through the opening month. The change could also affect Baltimore's pass catchers. NBC Sports noted that Huntley starting would represent a downgrade for Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers, although both remain central pieces of the Ravens' offense.Baltimore hosts Atlanta on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET. A win would move the Ravens to 4-1.Whether Jackson gets the chance to lead that effort remains uncertain. Rapoport's update makes one thing clear: Baltimore now has to prepare seriously for Week 5 without him.Stay updated with the latest Asian Games 2026 news, check the Asian Games medal tally and complete Asian Games schedule.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
