Cowboys and Lions among teams to call Steelers about potential trade for Joey Porter Jr.

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions have inquired about Joey Porter Jr. as a potential trade market for the Pittsburgh Steelers star cornerback begins to take shape, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

The Cowboys and Lions were among "a handful of teams" who have called the Steelers about Porter, ESPN reported. The Steelers are said to be willing to listen to offers.

The Cowboys and Lions have both suffered significant injuries to their secondary since the start of the season.

Porter has yet to play this season as he recovers from a back injury and is listed as questionable for Pittsburgh's Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals .

He also is seeking a new contract but said this week that he will play this season once he is healthy . Pittsburgh historically has not engaged in contract renegotiations during the season.

Porter spoke for the first time this week since the start of the season and called the passing of his contract extension deadline "old news."

Porter also addressed reports that he sought a second opinion on his injury, calling them false. And he denied asking the Steelers for a trade despite reports suggesting that was the case .
