Puka Nacua Injury Update, Latest News on Rams WR's Status vs. Giants After Missing Practices

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is questionable for Monday night's Week 2 game against the visiting New York Giants, head coach Sean McVay told reporters Saturday (h/t the Orange County Register 's Benjamin Royer).

Nacua is dealing with groin soreness that is different from the hip flexor soreness he experienced during the preseason, McVay said.

Nacua made five catches for 74 yards in the Rams' season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week in Australia.

He was not listed on the injury report Thursday before he missed practice Friday.

McVay said Nacua has been experiencing "some soreness" in his groin since after Thursday's practice, per Rams reporter Stu Jackson .

Rams wide receiver Jordan Whittington also sat out Friday's practice with a quadriceps injury. Whittington is being listed as doubtful to play on Monday, per Royer .

Davante Adams, who missed Thursday's practice for rest, was available for Friday's practice.

Adams, who caught three passes on six targets for 26 receiving yards last week, will be tasked with taking on a larger role Monday if Nacua is unavailable to serve as Matthew Stafford's top target.

The Rams are preparing to face a Giants defense that just held Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys to 175 passing yards in Week 1.

The Giants are also dealing with significant injuries to their secondary, however, after placing cornerback Paulson Adebo on injured reserve. Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II were on Thursday's injury report with calf and rib injuries, respectively.

Rookie cornerback Colton Hood could get the first start of his NFL career if Banks and Newsome aren't cleared by Monday.

Whether Nacua is able to rejoin the Rams, and whether Banks and Newsome are back for the Giants, will play a major role in what the Sean McVay's passing game looks like when the Rams open their home slate Monday night at 8:15 p.m. ET.
