As Drake Maye enters his third season in the NFL, the New England Patriots star quarterback is learning a lot about nutrition and maintaining his body throughout the year.

Maye discussed his diet with Men's Health , saying he's had to put his cravings for cheeseburgers, fries, pasta and milkshakes to the side, though he said he still has his cheat days.

"Just having to battle that, just try to limit to certain days of the week," he said (28:00 mark). "I try to give myself a cheat day. I try to do only two milkshakes a week. It sounds bad but I could drink a milkshake three times a day if I really wanted to and had the urge to. Try to mix that in with a protein shake instead."

Maye said that his rookie season was a learning experience as he went from eating whatever he wanted to focusing on his nutrition more. He added that getting married has helped him make better choices with his diet.

"My rookie year was at a point where I felt like I was the oddball around the facility, eating the way I was," he said.

But diet is only one part of the equation for mainting an NFL body. Maye said the offseason was all about upping his time in the weight room.

"Just trying to increase the amount of times I'm lifting," Maye said. "Just trying to start there... Just trying to keep the mindset of maintaining good weight and good muscle."

He's also had to find a balance between building muscle and maintaining his mobility, something that's key for every quarterback in the league.

"I'm big into dumbbell benching. I try to do as many arm exercises as you can think of, whether it's rowing, we do a lot of band work, we do a lot of push presses with the landmines," Maye said. "I think when you dive into the quarterback position, it's all about mobility and quick transition into power. Not as much weight but more about movement."

Maye was an MVP candidate in just his second season and led the Patriots to their first Super Bowl appearance since 2018. With another offseason behind him, he should be in for another big year in 2026, starting with a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday.
