Lamar Jackson leaves stadium in walking boot, reportedly day-to-day with ankle injury from Ravens win over Titans
Lamar Jackson left Sunday's game with an ankle injury and was replaced at the start of the second half by backup Tyler Huntley.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson left Sunday's 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans with an ankle injury and was replaced at the start of the second half by backup Tyler Huntley.
Jackson was initially listed as questionable to return with the injury, but he remained sidelined for the rest of the game. The Ravens went scoreless without him after halftime and fended off a Titans rally from a 24-7 halftime deficit.
Ravens coach Jesse Minter told reporters postgame that the team doesn't "know enough about" Jackson's injury to provide a precise diagnosis, but said that the Ravens considered bringing him back into the game. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported after the game that Jackson is considered day-to-day with the injury.
Jackson appeared to sustain the injury on a sack late in the first half. Titans defensive end Jermaine Johnson chased Jackson down from behind for a sack on the final offensive play of the first half. Jackson was able to stand up from the tackle and walk off the field. It wasn't apparent in the moment that he'd sustained an injury.
But slow-motion replay showed that Jackson's left ankle got caught up and twisted under Johnson's body as Johnson sacked him from behind. And Jackson didn't return to the game.
Baltimore led 24-7 when Huntley took over at quarterback, reducing pressure on Baltimore's offense before a stagnant second half forced the Ravens to consider putting Jackson back in the game.
Jackson off to another MVP-like start to the season
With the win, Baltimore joined the Cleveland Browns at 3-1 atop the AFC North. Jackson, of course, is a significant piece of Baltimore's hopes in the division and beyond. He was off to another strong start to his season prior to Sunday's injury.
Jackson entered Sunday's game having completed 69.7% of his passes for 248.3 yards per game with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. He led the NFL in both yards per attempt (9.8) and yards per completion (14.1). He'd added 124 yards (7.3 ypa) and 1 touchdown on the ground.
Jackson completed 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first half against the Titans.
The Ravens are certainly hoping that Jackson's injury won't linger. Baltimore has upcoming games against the Falcons, Browns, Bengals, Bills and Jaguars.
