The Minnesota Vikings placed running back Jordan Mason on injured reserve due to a thumb injury, the team announced Wednesday.
The Vikings also signed running back DeeJay Dallas to their active roster while adding running back Jerome Ford to their practice squad.
As for Mason, he'll now miss a minimum of four games before he'll be eligible to return.
From a fantasy football perspective, Aaron Jones is expected to receive the bulk of the available opportunities in Minnesota's backfield until Mason comes back.
It shouldn't be a lengthy absence, though.
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters Wednesday that Mason suffered a small fracture in his thumb, but it had been fixed.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also noted that Mason "should be back quickly."
The former Georgia Tech standout is beginning his second season in Minnesota after rushing for 758 yards and six touchdowns across 16 appearances throughout his 2025 campaign.
During the Vikings' 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, Mason picked up 59 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts. While it only represented an average of 3.9 yards per carry, it's worth noting that he faced at least eight defenders in the box on 20 percent of his opportunities (via Next Gen Stats ).
Mason also helped Minnesota complete a 12-point comeback in the second half against Green Bay with a 28-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings' first contest without Mason will take place against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. The Bears previously allowed 125 yards on the ground during their season-opening win over the Carolina Panthers.
Kickoff between Minnesota and Chicago is on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
