One NFL executive thought the Baltimore Ravens took an unprecedented step before receiving the necessary assurances to sign off on a trade for offensive lineman Cam Jurgens.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and The Ringer's Tom Pelissero reported Saturday the Ravens staged a physical on Jurgens at the Philadelphia Eagles' facility.

NFL Season Shaping Up To Be Unpredictable 🗣️

"I have never heard of that being done," the exec told Mike Sando of The Athletic.

The fallout from the failed Maxx Crosby trade is lingering months after the fact.

In early March, the Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders agreed to terms on a blockbuster swap centered around the five-time Pro Bowler. Days later, the deal was off altogether. Baltimore reportedly had concerns about Crosby's left knee after he underwent a physical and backed out.

Sando wrote there was a sense around the league the saga "would make it tough for teams to take Baltimore at its word on a significant trade."

There was no such risk of that happening with the Jurgens deal since the Ravens went the extra mile.

"I think it's the only way you could ever deal with the Ravens again," the executive said to Sando.

The exec did, however, question whether the on-site physical is something Baltimore can duplicate in every trade moving forward.

"The fact that Baltimore and Philly are so close, they can drive that and it can happen," they said. "But let's say San Francisco makes the same deal. They're gonna fly all these medical people back there in two days to go through this?"

Speaking to The Athletic's Michael Silver in April, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said rival GMs were initiating trade discussions with him, supposedly illustrating how the Crosby ordeal wasn't adversely impacting his job.

The circumstances behind the acquisition of Jurgens seem to paint a different picture.
