Adam Schefter pushes back on rumors of Peyton Manning taking Colts' GM job
It certainly seems that the rumors of Peyton Manning being a candidate for the Colts' general manager position were overblown.
Earlier this week, Dan Patrick caused a stir when he reported on his radio program that the Indianapolis Colts ' "first call" after firing general manager Chris Ballard " will be/has been " to Peyton Manning.
It seems that Patrick's source for that information was inaccurate. Following the Patrick report, Mike Chappell of FOX59/CBS4 reported that Colts co-owner/CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon had not reached out to Manning about the GM role (or any other position).
That obviously could change in the future, but Chappell noted that "[i]t's uncertain if Manning would have an interest if contacted." That has been the prevailing notion in the aftermath of Patrick's report.
From Adam Schefter to Colin Cowherd to Shannon Sharpe , insiders, pundits and former players have questioned if Manning would even be interested in running an NFL team.
"I believe that that job is beneath Peyton Manning," Schefter said on Altitude Sports Radio 92.5 FM on Tuesday. "You think Tom Brady would come back as a GM, or you think he would come back as an owner?
"His family's in Denver. His kids are there. I don't think he wants to go run a day-to-day organization. As much money as he's made in football, as much money as he's made post-football, why is he uprooting his family to go run a day-to-day operations of a football franchise?"
Manning, 50, said in 2024 that running an NFL team wasn't on his radar " in any way ." So, it seems that the two-time Super Bowl champion isn't a likely candidate to return to Indy to fill the team's GM position.
