Why Steelers DC Patrick Graham Turns to Amy Winehouse After Bad Losses
The Steelers defensive coordinator opened up about a memorable bus ride following a difficult loss and how music helped him reflect.
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham found an unexpected source of reflection after a difficult loss: Amy Winehouse.
Graham opened up about a turning point in his time with the Steelers, recalling a bus ride home from Cleveland when he spent the trip listening to the late singer and thinking about how he could improve.
"To be honest, I mean, I just sat there staring out the window listening to Amy Winehouse," Graham said, via 93.7 The Fan.
The defensive coordinator explained that listening to Winehouse has become something of a routine for him after disappointing losses. Her music matches his mood as he reflects on what went wrong and what he could have done differently.
"When we have a bad loss, I'm sitting there listening to Amy Winehouse," Graham said. "She's depressed on the song. I'm depressed that day."
Rather than simply move on from a difficult result, Graham uses those moments to evaluate himself and consider what needs to change.
"Just thinking about what I could do better," Graham said. "That was a turning point for me, and I'm glad it happened."
The Steelers hired Graham as their defensive coordinator ahead of the 2026 season. His comments offer a glimpse into how he approaches the challenges that come with leading Pittsburgh's defense and the importance he places on self-evaluation.
