Chelsea are set to play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup in a late October clash. The match has taken on some new importance after the Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, a crushing blow to morale as they lost to the bitter rivals at home for the first time in many years. Ahead of this cup tie, manager Xabi Alonso was speaking to the media and provided some injury updates to different players including one notable attacker.

In speaking about some of his attacking options for the match, the manager seemed very high on one Emmanuel Emegha. The former Strasbourg striker hasn't featured in a professional setting for his new club, but he will be in the squad and is available to play against the Reds.
The coach goes on to state that the youngster has special qualities and that he has a chance to get some minutes in the cup. This is a pretty strong statement backing the striker, who will have big shoes to fill.
With Joao Pedro sidelined and Cole Palmer suspended, the Blues front line will need a lot of help against a very strong Liverpool team. While he is unlikely to start, any minutes for Emegha would give him a chance to build up some fitness and provide cover for the injured Brazilian going forward. As seen against the Lilywhites, playing Morgan Rogers up top left the team without a focal point so getting any natural striker into the fray is a positive.
The return of the Frenchman, once described as a "clinical striker", could be what brings the attack back together in the absence of Pedro. But if not, he and Danny Welbeck can provide cover and offer something a bit more physical in the meantime.
