Yankees Reveal When They Will Activate Jazz Chisholm Jr. From Injured List
The New York Yankees should get Jazz Chisholm Jr. back on Tuesday
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has not played since Sept. 8 with a thumb sprain, but the New York Yankees are getting him back on Tuesday.
According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch , Aaron Boone said that the Yankees expect to activate Chisholm between games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays .
The Yankees have a very slim chance of winning the American League East, but one loss against the Rays will end those chances. Getting Chisholm back does help their chances, even if he has not had his best season. Overall, Chisholm has a .232/.312/.403 slash line with 19 home runs.
He may not be having a season like last year's, but he was hitting his stride before the injury. From Aug. 4 to the point when he got hurt Chisholm had a .295/.388/.443 slash line with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, 10 stolen bases and 10 RBIs. In that span, he was second on the team in walk rate, fourth in strikeout rate, second in batting average, third in OPS and first in hard-hit rate.
The Yankees have some decisions to make when Chisholm is activated. For starters, they must decide who gets optioned. They will also have to decide where he plays. Chisholm is going to play every day if he's healthy, but that creates a problem for Anthony Volpe .
Volpe has been a solid hitter since returning from Triple-A, and the Yankees need to find a way to keep him in the lineup right now. With Chisholm back, Volpe's spot at second base is in danger. Could the Yankees move Chisholm back to third base to make sure Volpe and Chisholm are in the lineup together while both are hot.
