Bayer Leverkusen will have to do without their top August signing Guéla Doué for weeks after he suffered a muscle injury in his right calf during a training session, the club said on Wednesday.

The Ivory Coast defender picked up the injury ahead of Leverkusen's Europa League game with Slovenian champions NK Celje. An MRI scan confirmed the diagnosis.

The 23-year-old will therefore not be available in the coming weeks, a statement added.

Leverkusen signed the World Cup player two weeks ago from French top-flight club Racing Strasbourg.

The younger brother of France attacking star Desiré Doué was Leverkusen's most expensive signing in the last window.
