Central Michigan University this week announced it has launched a new branded beer that will be served at Kelly/Shorts Stadium and a Midland brewery.

The school on Thursday, Oct. 1, said it was launching Central 1892, a traditional American ale, in partnership with Van Wagner, and Midland Brewing Company. Fabiano Brothers Distributing will serve as the distribution partner for this initiative.

"This is an exciting moment for our department and university as months of collaboration have led to this first-of-its-kind product launch for our fans," Zyzlewski Family Vice President and Director of Athletics Amy Folan said.

CMU introduced the new beer during its home game on Saturday, Oct. 3, against Akron University. After Oct. 3, Central 1892 will be available at Midland Brewing Company and other restaurants and retail locations throughout Mount Pleasant and Midland.

CMU described the beer as an American traditional ale "with a light malt backbone and balanced hop bitterness."

Midland Brewing Company is the exclusive brewing partner for Central 1892, the university said.

"We are beyond thrilled to partner with Central Michigan Athletics and the University on this initiative," Midland Brewing Company Owner Dave Kepler said. "Our brewery is proud to support Central Michigan Athletics as we have other local companies and causes. It brings us great joy to bring this concept to life for CMU Chippewa alumni and fans to enjoy."
