Reds/Cubs Sunday Night Baseball game to begin in rain delay

The Cincinnati Reds are set to wrap their weekend series in Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night. They're even going to have Joey Votto in the building as an on-field analyst seeing as the game is being carried nationally on both NBC and Peacock as the featured Sunday Night Baseball game of the week.

Unfortunately, it appears the game won't be starting on-time at 7:20 PM ET.

As veteran ESPN reporter Jesse Rogers relayed shortly after 6:40 PM ET, the game's going to be delayed due to rain in the Chicago area.

Just how long we'll have to wait before Shota Imanaga throws the game's first pitch remains to be seen.

What also becomes interesting is what impact this will have on Reds starter Chase Burns. He was already expected to begin seeing his total pitch counts reduced as a way of managing the load of getting through the entire season as a starter, and obviously having to stay warm for longer before even beginning the game could mean his already expected-to-be short night could end up even shorter.
