Just two games into the regular season, the Rangers ' goalie depth is already being put to the test.

Joonas Korpisalo is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, and has landed on IR.

Korpisalo was expected to come in and serve as the top option behind star starter Igor Shesterkin after being acquired from the Bruins in an offseason deal.

With him sidelined, Dylan Garand has been recalled from Hartford.

Garand, of course, was viewed as the favorite to slide into the No. 2 spot before the Korpisalo deal.

The youngster still had a chance to compete for a spot in camp, but he ended up landing on waivers late last week.

Upon clearing, Garand was assigned to Hartford.

Instead of starting the season as their top option between the pipes, though, he now receives another opportunity to show what he can do at the pro level.

The 24-year-old impressed in his first cup of coffee at the pro level last season, allowing two or less goals in his three appearances down the stretch.

Garand will likely play Friday against Detroit on the second night of a back-to-back.
