UW-Whitewater has dominant, record-setting season opener

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks started the football season with a comfortable 69-7 win – and set a few records along the way.

The Warhawks defeated Carleton College on Saturday, Sept. 5 in a nonconference game at Whitewater and set a team record for total yards, with 762.

Senior Darrick Hill from Stoughton scored the first touchdown of the season for the Warhawks on a 98-yard run, setting a school record for the longest touchdown run.

The Warhawks got the ball back after the Knights punted and quarterback Justin Klinkner connected with Jacques Brooks on a pass for an 84-yard touchdown.

The Knights answered on the next drive when quarterback Tyler Mastronardi found Tyler Dimond for a 37-yard touchdown to make it 14-7 in the middle of the first quarter.

From there, it was all Warhawks as they scored 55 unanswered points.

Klinkner completed 20 of 23 passes for 366 yards and five touchdowns, with one interception. Brooks had six receptions for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Hill ran for 129 yards on eight attempts, with one touchdown.

In 2025, the Warhawks had an 8-3 record and lost in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
