Toto Wolffhas put the focus on the human factor. The Mercedes director, aware of thedifficult situation George Russell is going through in the championship fight, has admitted that the team must work to help the Briton recover his bestversion. After the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, where Kimi Antonellionce again beat him and extended his advantage to 81 points, Wolff reflected onthe challenges his driver faces.

"You can see the pace he had toward the end, when hewas catching Leclerc, you know he was the fastest on track but after the tirechanges, the pace wasn't there and I just don't know where it is, we have toanalyze it because it's clearly in him, it's in the car and we just have tounlock it" declared Wolff after the race.

Russell 's weekend at Madring was complicated from the start. The Briton openly admitted his problems with tire degradation that preventedhim from fighting for pole position and relegated him to sixth position inqualifying. In the race, the team opted for a two stop strategy, switchingRussell to medium tires under the Virtual Safety Car and returning to the hardslater, although the driver initially questioned the decision, he lateracknowledged that it did not significantly affect his final fifth place result.

Wolff did not hold back on praise for Russell's trajectory, recalling his achievements before arriving in Formula 1: "When it comesto George, you can have good races, bad races, good years and bad years but weare talking about the driver who has won everything you could potentially havewon. Every karting championship, Formula 3 in his rookie year, Formula 2 in hisrookie year, then Williams, we are talking about a top level driver" he stated.

The Mercedes director acknowledged that the psychologicalaspect plays a fundamental role in this situation: "We need to discoverwhat he needs to unlock that potential and of course there is the psychologicalside. If you have a streak like his this year, you are taking hits but thegreat ones recover and I think George has everything he needs to fight forchampionships" explained Wolff.

Despite Antonelli's advantage, Wolff refused to consider thetitle fight over: "It's a mechanical sport, you can retire, you cancrash and it happens twice in a row and suddenly what seemed like a goodcushion is no longer there because there are six races left. In my opinion, wejust need to ignore the points until it is mathematically unrealistic or notreal, that they can win. Until then concentrate on every weekend and try to doour best" he pointed out.

Wolff also revealed that the development of the 2027 car hasbeen underway since before the summer: "2027 started a while ago forus, long before the summer. We shifted resources toward next year and thatcontinues according to plan, regardless of where we are in thechampionship" he concluded.

Mercedes looks to the future without losing sight of thepresent, aware that the key to success lies in recovering a Russell who stillhas a lot to prove.
