Chiefs news: Travis Kelce drops NSFW philosophy powering Kansas City

Travis Kelce credits Kansas City 's renewed edge to a coach who never left the building in spirit and has now returned to it in practice. Speaking on New Heights with his brother Jason, the veteran tight end explained what Eric Bieniemy has brought back to the Chiefs since rejoining as offensive coordinator, and the philosophy behind it is not exactly family-friendly.

"It's a breath of fresh air, man. I think we all know that old ball coach that will tell you that we got to run it down this mother," Kelce said in the podcast . "If you say that every day that we put on pads, you start to create a mentality and a mindset that I have no other option other than run through this mother. So he's told it to me 10 times now."

Kelce's larger point was about the value of repetition. "You start to incorporate that and it starts to become who you are, so that in the fourth quarter of Week 10, when this team has seen this play not only twice this game but 10 other games that you've already played, and they know it's coming because you're in the same formation and you're doing the same motion, you're going to be ready to run it through this mother's face," he said. "That's something that EB has always been unbelievable at."

Bieniemy is back in Kansas City for his second stint as offensive coordinator after holding the role from 2018 to 2022, a run that included two Super Bowl titles and Patrick Mahomes ' first MVP season. He left for Washington in 2023, then spent a year at UCLA and 2025 coaching running backs in Chicago before the Chiefs brought him back to replace Matt Nagy.

The mentality showed up in Week 1. Kansas City ran for 220 yards on 38 carries in its 31-10 rout of the Broncos , with Kenneth Walker III breaking off a 60-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Kelce added a 59-yard catch and run in Mahomes' first game back from ACL and LCL surgery .

The Chiefs host the Colts on Sunday Night Football looking to carry the approach into Week 2.
