Myles Garrett Bashes His Play in First Game for Rams: ‘The Worst Version of Myself’

Myles Garrett is focused on "getting healthy" after a disappointing debut with the Los Angeles Rams.

The star linebacker, who set the NFL record for single-season sacks last year when he was with the Cleveland Browns , finished the game against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, Sept. 10 in Australia without a tackle — and he acknowledged that he's "got to be better," while dealing with swelling in his knee.

"When I was out there, I was a little bit more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing, and that showed," Garrett, 30, told reporters after the Rams' 27-7 loss. "I wasn't who I needed to be for my team."

The Texas A&M standout added that he was "the worst version of myself that I've put out there," and said his knee was not 100% healthy going into the game.

According to ESPN, Garrett told head coach Sean McVay that he was "feeling about 85%" during training camp, where he was seen wearing a brace on his left leg.

The last time Garrett went without a single tackle was in Week 11 of the 2024 season, and it has happened just four times in his career.

Any loss of mobility on Garrett's part was lost on the Niners.

"He's one of those players where it's just, you know, no matter what he's going through, it's still not an easy out for anybody," San Francisco left tackle Trent Williams said.

For the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, the bar is high.

"I've got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I've shown that I've been before," Garrett said.
