Cowboys and Saints are perfect trade partners after Malik Davis injury

The Dallas Cowboys have a new injury in their running backs room that could have them looking for an addition that the New Orleans Saints might be able to provide.

According to Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones, Malik Davis suffered a hip injury at practice on Friday that is expected to keep him out long term.

"I think we're looking at a pretty serious injury that could take him out for some period of time," Jones said of Davis on 105.3 The Fan . "We don't have the final details. We'll know more (soon)."

Davis was the Cowboys' No. 2 running back behind Javonte Williams and his injury now leaves Dallas with only one other true running back on the roster outside of Williams, which is Emari Demercado .

The Cowboys will likely add another back at some point, but how they go about that remains to be seen.

The Saints are a team that has strong depth at the running back position .

After signing Travis Etienne to a big deal in free agency, that pushed Alvin Kamara , Kendre Miller and Audric Estime further down the depth chart.

There was uncertainty surrounding Kamara's future with the team all offseason long before the two sides agreed to a re-worked deal to keep the veteran in town.

The Saints might be willing to deal Kamara if a team like the Cowboys comes calling. Miller, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, is another possibility.

Kamara isn't the player he once was, but he can still make an impact as a runner and pass-catcher, and he's adequate in pass protection.

Miller's powerful running style is closer to what the Cowboys have in Davis, but he is far less proven than Kamara and is shaky in pass protection.

Kamara would easily be the more exciting addition for Dallas, but he might be too important to the Saints for them to trade him. Miller is a more realistic option for the Cowboys and would cost less.
