76ers star LeBron James drops unexpected career announcement ahead of Year 24 kickoff

LeBron James has made another major announcement, and it has nothing to do with basketball. The 41-year-old revealed a new partnership with Polymarket on Saturday morning.

It is the latest addition to a business portfolio that keeps growing alongside his playing career.

James adds another venture before his 24th season

The move surprised plenty of people, coming out of nowhere just days before his historic 24th NBA campaign begins in Philadelphia.

James had spent the whole summer as the biggest name on the market, finally deciding to join the 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option. It is a significant pay cut from the $50 million he earned with the Lakers last season.

He made his intentions clear in a series of social media posts announcing the move.

"This is my last decision. I'm not going for money. I'm not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship," James wrote.

"I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time."

The 76ers moved from 20-1 to 10-1 title odds after his arrival, joining him with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown.

James nearly walked away altogether. Swept from the playoffs in May, he admitted he thought he had played his final game.

"I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game," he said.

"I still truly love this game, and I have more to give."

That decision is Philadelphia's gain. The Polymarket news is just another sign that even at 41, the business side of LeBron never stops.
