HS Football Notebook | Fisher Catholic and Berne Union clash for top spot
Fisher Catholic and Berne Union meet with first place on the line as local football teams chase playoff berths.
LANCASTER — As the regular season of high school football winds down with only three games remaining, teams still have something to play for.
Fisher Catholic has the area's best record with a 6-1 mark and is currently the only area team that would qualify for the playoffs. Before the Irish think about the postseason, they have a huge game against Berne Union on Friday, Oct. 9. First place will be on the line in the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division when the two teams meet. Fisher Catholic has a 4-0 league record, and after the Rockets knocked off Grove City Christian a week ago, they put themselves in the conversation. They have a 3-1 league mark. A win over the Irish would forge a tie for first place with only one league game remaining.
Bloom-Carroll (4-3) and Fairfield Union (5-2) are in must-win situations, meaning they must win out to have a chance at the postseason. Both the Bulldogs and Falcons are in the hunt for a Mid-State League-Buckeye Division title, but again, they need to win out.
Trending up is Lancaster and Amanda-Clearcreek. The Golden Gales went on the road and picked up their second win of the season after they defeated Logan. The Gales have a chance to finish the season strong. The Aces, which started the season with a 0-5 record, have now won two consecutive games.
