John Mateer expressed a unity message about the Oklahoma Sooners' chemistry and bond following their 23-7 win over the Florida Gators on Saturday evening.

Mateer is going through the senior campaign of his collegiate career with the Sooners. While the team has gone through mixed results, the quarterback has persevered to be productive on the field.

For this game, Mateer shined with a big performance on the road. He completed 21 out of 33 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 14 times for 56 yards. The quarterback reflected on the victory after the game, having firm praise on how the team came together to pull off this win over Florida, who were ranked in the AP Top 25.

"We just believed something like this can happen, and kids like us can make a decision. But everybody in the building decided to fight and play for each other, and we started off with a good flow. Need to score more touchdowns. Field goals are cool, but we want touchdowns. But it was good, man. And we have each other's back, and that matters," Mateer said on the ESPN broadcast.

"We knew coming in here it's a great environment. We were saying in the locker, this is what you dream of. As a kid, so many great players have played here, and we love each other like we're not going to give up on each other. Some people might quit. Some people might want us to quit because the trials are hard, and they are. But we give it to God, and we do it for each other."

Mateer and Oklahoma controlled the game from start to finish. They did an excellent job containing Florida's attack, only conceding a touchdown in the second quarter.

Rocky Beers led receivers with four catches for 72 yards. Isaiah Sategna III came next with four receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown, while Hayden Hansen caught a three-yard touchdown pass.

The Sooners will look forward to their next matchup, being at home. They host the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 11 as kickoff commences on Nov. 14.
