The Denver Broncos have placed outside linebacker Jonah Elliss ( ankle ) on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games.

The news is not a surprise after Elliss was spotted at a college football game wearing a walking boot and using crutches last weekend. Shortly thereafter, he wrote "Be right back 🤙🏽" on social media alongside ‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭4, a Bible passage about remaining joyful during trials that test faith and produce steadfastness.

Broncos coach Sean Payton indicated earlier this week that the pass rusher's ankle injury is not-season ending.

"He's going to be someone that it's not season-ending, and so we're fortunate," Payton said on Wednesday. "So that'll come out later in the week, but it was better news."

Elliss will miss games against the Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders before being eligible to return against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12 (Denver has a bye in Week 10).

To fill Elliss' former spot on the 53-man roster, the Broncos activated fellow outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper, who is now back on the active roster after being reinstated by the NFL.
