Dodgers' Offense Clicks Good Enough in Stopping Reds

Fans were happy to see Shohei Ohtani return to the Los Angeles Dodgers ' lineup on Monday night, but he didn't contribute a single thing to their win.

The Dodgers put together some offense here and there, keeping the Cincinnati Reds in check to pick up a 6-3 win at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium.

Ohtani went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts against Reds pitching. He now has a .277 batting average, something he probably wants to improve on before postseason play begins for the Dodgers.

After Cincinnati jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Los Angeles put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth, three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and a single run in the bottom of the eighth.

Teoscar Hernández appears to be showing up in style these days, which is good news for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. Hernández, in the bottom of the sixth inning with Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy on base, smashed a three-run homer over the left-field wall. It was his 13th home run this season and gave Los Angeles a 5-1 lead at the time.

Hernández finished the game by going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Back in the bottom of the fifth inning, Alex Call was hit by a pitch and needed to come out of the ballgame. Hernández opened the inning with a single and stole his fourth base this season as Kyle Tucker 's struggles continued as he struck out. Hunter Feduccia also struck out before Call was hit by a pitch.

Miguel Rojas came on as a pinch hitter and reached first base on a wild throwing error from Reds third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes. Hernández and Call scored on the errant throw and Rojas made it all the way around to third base.

Will Smith hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. Muncy scored and that wrapped up the Dodgers' offensive output.

Emmet Sheehan picked up the victory for the Dodgers, pushing his overall record this season to 5-8. Sheehan worked 5.2 innings, giving up three hits, one earned run, one walk, struck out a career-high 10 batters, and gave up one home run.

Evan Phillips came on in the ninth inning, recorded two strikeouts, and earned his first save this season. Five Dodgers pitchers in total were used by Roberts and, for Monday night, the bullpen held its own against Cincinnati.
