The Chicago Blackhawks had a rough night on Monday. Apart from suffering a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche at United Center in Chicago, the Blackhawks also saw franchise legend Patrick Kane , who returned to the team on a two-year deal , leave the game in the second period with an apparent injury.
Here is a video of the future Hockey Hall of Famer exiting to the locker room .
The Blackhawks later posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Kane was ruled out for the rest of the game .
In a later update, Chicago head coach Jeff Blashill said that Kane will miss the next two Blackhawks games with an upper-body injury, via Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Patrick Kane, who is the all-time leader in NHL assists among US-born players , only had 10:20 of ice time against the Avalanche, who overcame an early multiple-goal deficit to defeat Chicago.
The Blackhawks scored the first two goals of the game on even strength, with Wyatt Kaiser and Roman Kantserov, in the opening period before the Avs woke up and responded with five unanswered goals, including one on the power play.
The loss to the Avalanche was Chicago's third straight and the last game before the Blackhawks hit the road for a three-game trip away from the Windy City. Given the most positive timeline Blashill has provided, it will be interesting to see whether Kane joins the team on the road to play the final leg of that matchup.
The Blackhawks will next play the Florida Panthers on Wednesday at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise before taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa on Thursday. The last game of that road trip will be against the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center in Raleigh on Saturday.
