Manchester United have had their worst start to a league campaign in 40 years, picking up a mere six points from as many games.

It was a familiar tale on Saturday as the Red Devils failed to get past the ten men of Tottenham Hotspur and eventually conceded after dropping deep late in the game.

It is clear that the squad's fitness levels are a shambles , while the lack of depth in certain positions is hurting Michael Carrick significantly.

The head coach had demanded INEOS sign a left-back as well as a backup striker, while it was also clear that defensive reinforcements were necessary.

Yet, the co-owners opted to focus only on the midfield and even then, they botched their operations.

With Carrick currently without a left-back and a specialist striker, the 20-time English league champions' hopes of steering the ship away from choppy waters seem to be fading.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that INEOS are prepared to rectify that mistake and bring in reinforcements if the right fit is available.

The reliable Italian also mentioned that there is money left over from the summer.

Whether or not that amount will be spent, or INEOS will choose to keep their powder dry, will depend on United's form between now and the winter window.

"In the January window, United would consider signings if form stays poor and the right players become available.

They had some budget left in the summer but the right profiles were not available late in the window. It is too early to say how active they will be."

The right fit caveat could play spoilsport, but Carrick will be hoping he can turn the team's fortunes around soon. Otherwise, INEOS will be helping someone else in the dugout.
