Texas women's basketball player Jada Bediako out with Achilles tear
Before the season begins, Texas women's basketball player Jada Bediako tears her Achilles.
Head coach Vic Schaefer and Texas women's basketball will be down a Longhorn before the season even starts.
Jada Bediako , a senior transfer forward from Marquette, will miss with an Achilles injury.
An MRI confirmed the tear Monday and she will have surgery Thursday, Schaefer told reporters.
Due to the NCAA's new 5-for-5 rule , Bediako can return for a fifth and final season.
Her length at 6-foot-3 and experience was expected to make a great complement for junior forward Breya Cunningham . Bediako appeared in 26 games her junior year with the Golden Eagles. She shot 29 of 52 from the field and her 55.8% mark led the team in field-goal percentage.
After exhibition games against UConn and UCLA, Texas opens its season Nov. 4 against Fairleigh Dickinson at Moody Center.
