Panthers CB Mike Jackson may have the best take on LB Devin Lloyd's insane Week 2 performance

Statistically speaking, the Carolina Panthers defense is not off to a great start this season. After giving up 59 points to the Chicago Bears in Week 1, their numbers are still a bit lopsided—even though they almost shut out the Atlanta Falcons in a dominant Week 2 win .

Heading into Week 3, the Panthers rank last in rushing yards allowed (224) and they're tied with the Miami Dolphins for the third-worst scoring defense in the league (31.0 points per game).

This is why context is so important—because Carolina's defense is looking better than it has in years, especially at the linebacker position.

That's where both Devin Lloyd and Bobby Okereke stood out on Sunday, with the former putting in one of the best games in franchise history at the position. That's really something considering the number of elite linebackers who have passed through over the last 30 years—including Hall of Famers Sam Mills and Luke Kuechly and team greats Dan Morgan and Thomas Davis .

Lloyd's output— the first ever that has yielded nine tackles, a sack, two interceptions and an interception return for a touchdown—has drawn some high praise.

Head coach Dave Canales said it was maybe the best game he's ever seen from a linebacker in 17 years in the NFL. It was certainly the best of the conference, as the league named him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week .

But the coolest take may belong to cornerback Mike Jackson .

"I ain't never seen a game like that by any defensive player ever," Jackson told reporters on Wednesday. "You can't do that on a video game."

To be sure, it takes a real sicko to user-control an off-ball linebacker in Madden—but it is definitely possible.

That doesn't take anything away anything from Lloyd's performance, which raises the ceiling for what this unit can accomplish—both in 2026 and as long as he's wearing a Panthers uniform.
