Golden is WR43 in PFN's Week 3 rankings after a dozen targets in the opener and six more against the Jets, plus a 23-yard pass interference he drew that shows up in nobody's box score. The one thing keeping him out of my top 35 is how closely his game mirrors Christian Watson's. If you play him Thursday, use a WR slot rather than the flex.
Should You Start or Sit Matthew Golden in Week 3?
Golden earned a dozen targets in the opener and another six last week against the Jets. Those looks in the overtime win don't include a 23-yard DPI that he forced with Green Bay backed up in the third quarter, a play that nets us nothing as fantasy managers but is good to see.
I'm not there yet with him as a flex option, but I'm not far. We know Jordan Love wants to stretch the field vertically, and given where this run game currently sits, high PROE schemes seem more likely than not until the Josh Jacobs situation gets ironed out.
The last hurdle I have to clear before getting Golden inside of my top-35 at the position is the skill mirroring with Christian Watson. Like his counterpart, speed is a primary weapon for Golden. That can be a net positive with time, but it also creates a low floor in weeks where Watson is winning in a big way.
Against the Falcons, I'm not too worried about a lack of opportunities. If you want to roll the dice on Golden as a flex Thursday night, make sure you're slotting him in a "WR" slot to give yourself flexibility later in the week should an injury pop up on your roster.
