Viking FK vs. FC Bayern: Gamethread

FC Bayern’s comeback was ruined by a Michael Olise red card and late Viking goal.

· 905 words

Vincent Kompany wisely reset the Bayern standard at halftime, making three substitutions at the break. The entire squad played with the proper effort and precision to score three unanswered goals and go home with three points. Unfortunately, fate had other plans.

Michael Olise's temper finally got the better of him. Viking's left backs poked and prodded him all game and he finally snapped. Now he will miss next week's huge clash with Arsenal.

After the red card, Vincent Kompany elected to play defensively for the final 15 minutes. The strategy failed (again).

I was shocked how classless Viking played all night. Viking's players were constantly taking cheap shots and taunting Bayern players, including the captain Zlatko Tripić.

Thanks for hanging out! Bayern will head back to the Bundesliga this weekend with a home match against RB Leipzig.

Bayern dominated possession but has nothing to show for it at the break. Constant movement and passing allowed the ball to pass through narrow channels into dangerous areas. But Viking was ruthlessly efficient with both of their chances.

Harry Kane has not been very involved and that needs to change. Whether he's dropping into the midfield, playing quick passes with the wingers, or attacking the goal on crosses, Kane needs more touches.

Lennart Karl has been slow to react in various situations. Vincent Kompany needs to replace him with Alphonso Davies, then shift Nathaniel Brown to CAM and Michael Olise back to the right wing.

38': Goal, Viking. Bayern down 2-0. Quick passing leads to Peter Christiansen sneaking behind Nathaniel Brown and finishing well in the 1v1 situation.

10': Michael Olise bends a free kick toward the near post but the keeper is able to slide over and make the save.

2': Goal, Viking. Bayern down 1-0. For the second match in a row, Bayern dig themselves into an early hole. Gianni Stenesness scores on a relatively free header.

Lineups are out! Vincent Kompany is rotating half the squad from the weekend draw against Augsburg. Lennart Karl, Tom Bischof, Nathaniel Brown, Kim Min-jae, Konrad Laimer, and Jonas Urbig will replace Ismael Saibari, Aleksandar Pavlović, Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Josip Stanišić, and Manuel Neuer.

Bayern Munich's star-studded roster returned from international break and ran into an organized and efficient Augsburg side. Bayern came from behind twice to bring the match level but had to settle for a draw, extending the undefeated streak in the Bundesliga. Bayern returns to Champions League against another Norwegian side, Viking.

Viking uses a dual manager system, splitting head coaching duties between Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim and Morten Jensen. The unique setup led Viking to their first Norwegian title in 34 years. In their first Champions League match since 1992, Viking fell to Stuttgart 3-1.

Bayern wins 5-0. Bayern will run wild in this one. Harry Kane will quickly score twice and Ismael Saibari will cap the first half with a goal of his own. In the second half, Luis Díaz and Lennart Karl will add goals on back post tap-ins. Michael Olise will finish the match with three assists, while Tom Bischof and Joshua Kimmich will each have one assist.

Odds: Bayern (-1250), Draw (+1200), Viking (+1800)
