Patrick Mahomes’ Father in Wait-And-Watch Mode Over Court’s Permission To Attend Chiefs’ Games While on Probation for DWI

Pat Mahomes Sr. has asked a Texas judge for permission to travel outside the state to watch his son play for the Kansas City Chiefs, a reason familiar to football parents everywhere. Mahomes Sr. is currently on probation following a 2024 DWI conviction.

According to court records reviewed by People and local station KLTV , the former MLB pitcher filed a motion on Friday, seeking approval to attend seven Chiefs games in Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cincinnati.

People reported that the 56-year-old is "hoping the court will allow him" to make the trips during the 2026 season. Notably, the filing does not ask the court to remove his supervision requirements.

Instead, Mahomes Sr. acknowledged that he would remain subject to urinalysis testing requested by his supervision officer before and after each trip.

The motion also states that Mahomes Sr. has completed 160 hours of community service and a 16-week outpatient treatment program.

KLTV reported that a Smith County community supervision officer verified his compliance with his current probation conditions and that he continues to be monitored with an ankle device.

Earlier, Mahomes Sr. pled guilty in August 2024 to his third driving while intoxicated charge after a February arrest in Tyler, Texas. It was then reported that his blood alcohol content was 0.23 when he was pulled over.

As a result, the court sentenced Mahomes Sr. to five years of probation, including one year of intense supervision. The legal situation became complicated as the authorities arrested him on Feb. 3 after alleging that he consumed alcohol in violation of his probation, according to Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman.

KLTV reported that the court sentenced Mahomes' father to 30 days in jail, with credit for time served, and extended his probation by two years.

The travel request would allow Mahomes Sr. to attend seven games this season. No ruling on the motion was reported as of Sunday afternoon, so the request remains pending.

Mahomes Sr. spent 11 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1992 through 2003, including five years with the Minnesota Twins.

He also pitched for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates before continuing his professional career outside the majors.

The family has spoken publicly before about the effect Mahomes Sr.'s legal troubles had on his QB son.

In ESPN's 2025 docuseries The Kingdom , both Mahomes and Mahomes Sr. discussed how the 2024 arrest forced the three-time Super Bowl champion to address questions about his father while preparing for Super Bowl LVIII.

For now, the latest development is procedural and does not guarantee Mahomes Sr. will be in the stands. Whether he gets to make those trips now depends on the Texas judge.
