3 free agent cornerbacks Steelers should sign after Joey Porter Jr trade
Three veteran cornerbacks Pittsburgh should target after poor performance vs. Browns.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' secondary was seen as a very deep unit heading into the season. However, following the Joey Porter Jr trade and an ankle injury to Jamel Dean, the Steelers suddenly have a need at cornerback after Daylen Everette was torched on Thursday.
A trade for a notable name would be nice, but the likelier outcome is a free agent signing. There are multiple notable names available that would make sense, and here are a few of my favorites.
Kelly is already an NFL journeyman just three years into his career. After spending 2023 with three teams, Kelly spent 2024 and 2025 with the Las Vegas Raiders under defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, and had a solid 2025 season that saw him pick off three passes in 13 games. At minimum, he knows the defense and would be better than Everette was against Cleveland. He did suffer a season-ending knee injury last December, which is a large reason he is still available.
Lattimore didn't have the best run with the Washington Commanders, but he was largely solid in zone coverage last season. He broke up three passes and allowed less than a yard per coverage snap when the Commanders were in zone, per Sumer Sports. The only pushback here would be Lattimore's age, as he is 30 years old.
Again, White is on the older side at 31 years of age. But like Lattimore, he was good in zone looks last year. Anytime you see these former high-end corners age, they usually are still good in zone looks due to their high football IQs. In 275 coverage snaps, White allowed 16 receptions as the nearest defender and 0.64 yards per coverage snap. with six pass breakups and an interception.
