Detroit SportsNet preseason streaming outage angers Red Wings fans

A few hours after a Detroit SportsNet social media post exhorting Detroit Red Wings fans to watch the team's third preseason game on Thursday, Sept. 24, or take a penalty , it looks like the nascent team broadcaster will land in the box itself.

Fans attempting to watch the Red Wings ' game at Little Caesars Arena vs. the Buffalo Sabres via the MLB.tv website – the first test of the Wings' streamer after the first two preseason games were shown on DetroitRedWings.com – got about 13 minutes of game action Thursday before the broadcast went to commercial … and never came back.

After about two minutes of commercials, the broadcast devolved into the "COMMERCIAL BROADCAST IN PROGRESS" placeholder screen with no sound. That lasted for several minutes, leaving Wings fans unable to watch the first goal of the game, a power play score by Axel Sandin Pellikka. About a minute after that, though, the MLB.tv/DSN broadcast began to carry the audio track from play-by-play announcer Ken Daniels and analyst Mickey Redmond, at least through the end of the period … when the commercials began again.

After a first intermission consisting solely of commercials (and the placeholder screen), the broadcast resumed with the start of the second period.
