There's always a battle or some bruising going on in the Big Ten, but rarely are there games where the physicality in the trenches alone will determine the winner. That's what we have when the #17 Iowa Hawkeyes go to the Big House to face #18 Michigan . Both teams are 3-0 and in must-win situations if they want to make either the Big Ten Championship or the College Football Playoff. The game total is 38.5! That's the lowest game total of the entire weekend and for good reason.

Iowa will go to Michigan this weekend then host Ohio State next weekend. After that, Iowa has a bunch of games that are winnable and most of them will list the Hawkeyes as the favorites, but it'll be 12-round boxing match making it out of the regular season with two or fewer losses. Iowa has dominant two out of three opponents, shutting out Northern Illinois (40-0) and Northern Iowa (55-0) in their latest game. In between those two shutouts, Iowa beat rival Iowa State, 16-13 in the usual defensive-minded contest. I don't see that changing here as Iowa has the 107th-ranked passing attack per PFF and Michigan isn't any better at 113th!

Bryce Underwood and this Michigan offense has skated by with below average performances against two really good defense — Western Michigan and Oklahoma , but this could be even tougher. Iowa has always has giants in the trenches and Michigan is no different, but they've failed to find much success on the ground, ranking 131st in rushing success per PFF. Like Iowa, the bread and butter of this Michigan team is the defense. The Wolverines have allowed 39 total points in three games, rank top 25 in rushing defense and 30th in fewest plays for opponents (Iowa ranks 11th).

The Michigan offense has been the most disappointing unit for the Wolverines this season. The running game has been the backbone of any success they've had. Michigan ranks 66th in rushing yards per game (147.7) compared to 102nd in passing yards per game (175.7). Bryce Underwood has struggled so much that PFF ranks the Wolverines passing attack 113th in the country — and that's after they whooped UTEP and Underwood tossed two scores.

Michigan Player to Watch on Offense: QB Bryce Underwood

Bryce Underwood definitely had a fire lit after Week 1's postgame presser following his Hail Mary toss over Western Michigan. Hearing that his job isn't infinite, well he turned around and beat #11 Oklahoma then throttled UTEP. Despite his start being shaky against Oklahoma, 9-of-17 for 111 yards, he bounced back against UTEP, as you'd hope. Underwood went 19-of-25 for 223 yards and two touchdowns against UTEP. This will be another challenge and it could be a long day against an Iowa team with eight sacks and three interceptions.

The Michigan defense is holding their opponents to 220.0 yards per game, ranking 10th-best in the country. The Wolverines have held Western Michigan, Oklahoma, and UTEP to 150, 289, and 221 total yards. Michigan has 10 sacks and two interceptions on the early season. The Wolverines haven't faced a threading passing attack yet and won't versus Iowa, so I'd expect Michigan to stack the box and sell out against the run. Michigan has allowed 96.3 rushing yards per game, ranking 23rd.

Michigan Player to Watch on Defense: DE John Henry Daley

John Henry Daley has been a wrecking ball over the last two weeks. He has 2.5 sacks and 11 combined tackles against Oklahoma and UTEP. Last year as an Utah Ute, he posted 11.5 sacks, 48 tackles, and two forced fumbles. His stock is rising and I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up being a first round pick next year.

The Hawkeyes passing attack ranks 107th per PFF, so neither Michigan nor Iowa have a top-100 passing attack. However, Iowa ranks fifth in rushing offense and sixth in run blocking, so you can bet that Kamari Moulton and this Hawkeyes offensive line will be hard at work on Saturday. Iowa had an offensive explosion last week in a 55-0 win versus FCS Northern Iowa. Iowa recorded 645 total yards and 422 on the ground and posted 507 total yards and 289 rushing versus Northern Illinois. Against Iowa State though, the only P4 opponent Iowa has faced, the Hawkeyes yardage dropped to 284, only 13 first downs gained, and 93 rushing yards.

Iowa Player to Watch on Offense: RB Kamari Moulton

It sort of feels like another average Iowa year where this team has problems with the quarterback and the running game is what keeps this offense afloat. Kamari Moulton is that guy carrying Iowa. Moulton had 183 yards and two touchdowns against Northern Illinois, then 57 rushing yards and 31 receiving yards versus Iowa State. Moulton is listed as day-to-day after missing the Northern Iowa game. If he is out, I am not sure how the Iowa offense survives.

In three games, Iowa's defense has allowed 13 total points — all of them coming from Iowa State. The Hawkeyes shut out Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa, which makes sense given those teams are a combined 1-5 with a lone win over Drake . Iowa has yet to allow a first quarter or fourth quarter point this season. The defense will carry the Hawkeyes as far as they can, but this is a must-win if Iowa wants to make the College Football Playoff or Big Ten Championship Game.

Iowa Player to Watch on Defense: LB Cam Buffington

Cam Buffington has an eye-popping 27 tackles through three games as a full-time starter. The next highest tackler on the team has 10, so he's lightyears ahead at this point. Against Iowa State, Buffington had 15 tackles with nine of them being solo, which again, the next closest player on the team has 10 tackles in three games and he had 9 solo in one game. With Michigan's inability to have explosive plays, I would say another double-digit tackling performance may be on the docket for number 33.

"When Iowa and Michigan meet on Saturday, the game total will be the lowest of the week by a full touchdown. In Iowa's only P4 game against Iowa State, the score was 16-13. In Michigan's only P4 game, the score was 17-10 versus Oklahoma. This feels like first to 20 points wins. I am not a believer in either quarterback situation at either school and the rush defenses are so strong that Jordan Marshall and Kamari Moulton could struggle. I like the Under 38.5 for a Saturday sweat. Iowa is also 9-1 to the Under and currently riding a six-game winning streak to the Under when they're a road underdog."
