JCPS cancels outdoor activities amid forecasted extreme heat
Student athletes are encouraged to check with their coach or athletic director for adjusted times and cancelations.
Jefferson County Public Schools officials have canceled all outdoor practices and competitions Sept. 2-3 due to forecasted extreme heat, according to an Aug. 31 post to social media .
The announcement comes as officials at the National Weather Service in Louisville predict extreme temperatures throughout the week, with forecasted heat indexes up to 106 degrees, according to a heat advisory issued Aug. 31 .
"Due to forecasted extreme heat this week, ALL outdoor practices and competitions are canceled [Sept. 2 and Sept. 3]," the post states.
Practices and game times for Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 4 may also be altered, according to the post. Student athletes are encouraged to check with their coach or athletic director for adjusted times and cancellations.
