Kyle Larson Adds to NASCAR Cup Points Lead With Dominant Kansas Win

It was about as perfect of a day at Kansas Speedway as it could be for Kyle Larson. The driver of the No. 5 started on the outside of the front row, swept both stages, led a race-high 235 of 267 laps and laid down the fastest lap of the race to earn maximum points in the Hollywood Casino 400.

Larson put on a clinic as his 235 laps led broke his own record of most circuits led at Kansas. The defending Cup Series champion also surpassed Bill Elliott for 19th place on most laps led all-time in Cup Series history.

With the dominant performance, "Yung Money" extended his points lead from one over Denny Hamlin to 26. Hamlin maintained a reasonable gap between himself and the Hendrick Motorsports star, finishing third and totaling 17 stage points.

Christopher Bell moved into third place in the standings, passing Joey Logano, after notching 12 stage points and finishing sixth. However, the dominant Larson win caused Bell to lose ground on the points lead as he is now 50 points behind.

Logano, who entered 16 points behind Larson, is now 67 points out of the top spot after a 20th-place finish at Kansas.

Tyler Reddick failed to score any stage points on Sunday and wound up finishing 11th. Despite having a series-high five wins in 2026, Reddick finds himself seventh in the standings, 111 points behind Larson.

Carson Hocevar took a hit in the championship standings as a 33rd-place result sent the driver of the No. 77 from eighth to 11th in the rankings. Chase Elliott slipped from 12th to 13th place in the standings despite recording an eighth-place finish.

Here is a look at the updated points standings for the NASCAR Cup Series following the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Larson is the first driver in the 2026 Chase to win two Chase races, with victories at World Wide Technology Raceway and Kansas Speedway — his first two wins of the season.

Hamlin started the Chase as the top seed with a 25-point advantage over second place Ryan Blaney. The driver of the No. 11 held the points lead through the Chase opener at Darlington and the second Chase race at WWT Raceway.

After an eighth-place result at Bristol and a runner-up finish for Larson, Hamlin surrendered the points lead. It marked only the second points lead change of the 2026 season.
